Boston in midst of revival

[The Durango Herald] January 22, 2005--Behind the brick walls of the Lion of Judah congregation, fists and voices were raised in praise as the predominantly Hispanic church celebrated the next step in its growth: The city had just approved an expansion of its sanctuary, which has been packing in 800 people per Sunday. Two decades ago, when the church was founded, it had 15 congregants.

The expansion, the Rev. Roberto Miranda told the congregation, would be "a model to other churches and be a statement to the community that we are on our way."

Similar stories abound as part of Boston's so-called "quiet revival," a largely overlooked period of church expansion that's happened amid the decline of the region's historically prominent Protestant denominations.
