[VirtueOnline] February5, 2005--How can Fr. Moyer be elected to one see (armed forces), but given responsibilities for missionary activities and Episcopal visitor, as stated publicly by parties to this election? Is Fr. Moyer a priest in good standing in the ACA? How can someone serve or be canonically resident in three jurisdictions at once? Do not these considerations disqualify this election?
The concept of a diocese as a geographic territory over which a bishop has episcopal oversight has no basis in Scripture. Its origins can be traced to the civil administration of the Roman Empire. Indeed the concept of bishop which Dr. Adams discusses in his column is not found in the New Testament.
