[Family News in Focus] February 6, 2006--Former Republican US senator and diplomat, John Danforth is again calling for the GOP to take on and toss out the “Christian Right.” Danforth, an Episcopal priest, accuses the religious right of claiming to speak for God. Danforth’s first public criticism of the Republican Party came last March in an essay he wrote for the New York Times. Since then his disagreements with the party keep coming back thanks to the media. Professor John J. Pitney, Jr. of Claremont McKenna College in California says the rantings are without merit.
