[The Church of England Newspaper] April 14, 2006--Thousands of families in rural Somalia have been forced to flee their homes in search of food and water as the drought situation there worsens. Around 2,500 people (500 families) have set up makeshift camp on the outskirts of the town of Waajid in the Bakool region looking for relief aid. Most of these families had to travel distances of up to 70 kilometres in temperatures of up to 40 degrees centigrade to get there.
