Numbers Have a Way of Bringing You Back to Reality

[titusonenine] 7 May 2007--According to the U.S. Census bureau, the population of Iowa grew from 2,776,755 in 1990 to 2,926,324 in 2000. They project the population on July 1, 2005 to have been 2,973,700.

During the period of 1995-2005, according to Episcopal Church statistics, the number of active baptized members in the diocese of Iowa went from 12,638 in 1995 to 10,560, a 16.4% loss. As a point of possible comparison, readers may be interested to know that the 1986 Episcopal Church Annual lists the baptized membership in Iowa to have been 17,699 (note that some of the measurement standards changed after this and there is some controversy about how to interpret the change, but the broad trend I believe is clear).

Now how do you suppose that can be squared with this?
