Homosexuality and the Church: Two Views

http://www.standfirminfaith.com/index.php/site/article/3595/

[Stand Firm] 13 June 2007--I see Mr. Johnson has been keeping up with the Presiding Bishop and her "David-and-Jonathan-were-gay" meme, but aside from that, let's examine Mr. Johnson's logic, which so far succumbs to the fallacy of the circular argument - assuming as true the very thing whose truth is in question.

By lumping homosexual behavior into the same category as the commodification of sex, exploitation and prostitution, pornography, pedophilia, and "distorted and diseased forms of sexuality" (perpetrated, of course, by straight males), is Mr. Johnson saying homosexual behavior is similarly debased? Somehow I think if that were his intent, he would be arguing the other side of this issue.

So what he must mean is that homosexual behavior is OK, while all those other forms of sexual behavior are not. Well, fine... we're all for listening to the case that this is so, but Mr. Johnson doesn't make it. He simply presents it as a given, then proceeds to point out that Christianity as practiced is often at odds with Scripture, therefore it's OK to ignore it on the matter of homosexuality. After that, he reckons that those of us who take Scripture seriously are insensitive to others, or ignorant, or both.
