Looking Back: Prayer Book Revision in the Episcopal Church

[Stand Firm] 11 June 2007--"The new Prayer Book, in changing the language, has simply taken away the only thing which used to make our liturgy, showing us our true state as Episcopalians. We are, in fact, fundamentally impoverished liturgically. We have been in this state for a very long time, but the majesty of the language hid us from our liturgical poverty. As long as Elizabeth spoke, we were comforted. However, that comfort always lacked worldly weight – except aesthetically, which for many Episcopalians, constitutes the essence of piety altogether".R. Taylor Scott.
