From Ireland: Why ABp Sentamu should think again about TEC

[Anglican Mainstream] 4 Sep 2007--Was I dreaming? “Archbishop of Armagh says Division a Greater Sin than Heresy”, said the headlines. Archbishop Harper was preaching on 22nd July 2007 in Clonmacnoise, whose Dean was charged with heresy only five years ago by the Bishop of Meath (the dean resigned during the trial). Perhaps the archbishop was exaggerating to make the point that many splits in the Church have been over minor matters. But his thinking is dangerously flawed: if one continually seeks unity by ignoring heresy, there can be no orthodoxy. If there is no orthodoxy, Jesus’ distinction between the gates leading respectively to life and destruction (Matt 7:13) is null and void. And the people of Clonmacnoise know better than most the pain to which unorthodox teaching can lead.
