Some challenges regarding episcopacy in the Church of England

[Anglican Mainstream] 14 Sep 2007--With numerous bishops being appointed to address the situation in North American generally and The Episcopal Church specifically, it may be time to consider the nature and role of the episcopate itself. (If the ‘answer’ to the problems of an episcopal church involves the episcopate, surely the same may also be true of the ’cause’?) In the light of this, the Ugley Vicar blog has published a draft paper on Some Challenges Regarding Episcopacy in the Church of England. Written from an English Conservative Evangelical viewpoint, it considers how the Anglican church has drifted from being episcopal into episcopalianism - represented by an over-emphasis on the person, rather than the role, of the bishop - and suggests a re-capturing of the bishop’s teaching office in the Church and a strengthening of the bond between bishops and their presbyters.
