The “Middle Way”: Leaving and Staying faithfully; A Response to Mr. Jerry Bowyer

[Stand Firm] 15 Nov 2007--The question Mr. Bowyer fails to ask, however, is whether obedience, cooperation, and fellowship given not simply to an illegitimate government or secular body, but to an illegitimate organization that claims to be a church, an ecclesial body, constitutes the sort “participation” against which believers have been warned both in 1st Corinthians 5 and in 2nd John 9-11? Does inviting a heretic bishop to visit your parish, giving money to a heretical diocese or to a diocese that also gives money to the heretical national body, or any of the other thing incumbent upon entities and persons within the jurisdictional boundaries of the Episcopal Church constitute a kind of participation in the wicked work of the heretic (2nd John 11)? If it does; if obeying and submitting to the authority of an ordained heretic presuming to exercise ecclesial power can rightly be classified as “participation”, then, in fact, obedience and submission to the heretic or heretical body is disobedience toward God.
