Leap of Faith

[sydneyanglicans.net] 5 Jul 2008--t is really irritating that many people say that faith and knowledge are opposites. The problem is that sometimes we Christians say something like this. When we reach the limits of our understanding we say (quite rightly, too), ‘Well it’s a matter of faith’. After all, the Bible contrasts ‘walking by faith’ and ‘walking by sight’ (2 Corinthians 5:7).

But this sort of faith is not irrational or unusual. On many occasions in human existence we walk by faith and not by sight. Thus, when someone makes us a promise – say to leave us something in their will – we walk by faith not by sight.

We have never seen the actual document and indeed even if we did see it, it may be changed later. All we have to go on is a word of promise. And yet many of us will live and even spend money by that promise and not be disappointed.
