Singing a 'NewSong'

[Beaumont Enterprise] 9 Oct 2008--When Rick Conrad gets interested in something, such as politics, for instance, he speaks with the enthusiasm of an avid sports fan.

"Man, have you been keeping up with the election? I'm addicted to it," he said recently in the living room of his West End home - FOX News muted on the television in the background.

"But that's not what we're here to talk about," he added, focusing his thoughts immediately. "Let me tell you about my church."

Conrad's enthusiasm seems to spill over into his job as a church planter - the vocational combination of both an entrepreneur and pastor.

For the past seven months, he's been raising both fiscal and human capital in order to start NewSong Covenant Church in Beaumont.

In order to plant the non-denominational NewSong, Conrad drew on his experience as a former planter for the Episcopal Church.
