[OneNewsNow] 4 Nov 2008--Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama remains under fire for telling a newspaper that he plans to bankrupt the coal industry.

The release of an audiotape from an interview Obama conducted with the San Francisco Chronicle editorial board in January has prompted the McCain campaign and other Republicans to warn battleground states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia that Obama will eliminate their coal industries. In the interview, Obama talked about his "aggressive" plan to curb what he believes is man-made global warming.

Obama in the White House will dash hopes for a clean coal generating plant here in western Kentucky and the new jobs that it would bring to the region. It will also cost jobs in eastern Kentucky in which the coal mining industry is a leading employer.
