Norwood First Baptist Church and Anglican Church of the Redeemer form AWANA Club

The First Baptist Church and the Anglican Church of the Redeemer in Norwood have teamed up to form a new youth group.

“AWANA is a club which focuses on teaching the Bible and good spiritual and moral values,” said the Rev. Alan Bouffard of the Anglican Church of the Redeemer

The AWANA club is offered for kids from age 3 to fifth grade and features games, songs, stories, crafts and handbook study, he explained.

“The AWANA Club is offered by the First Baptist Church and the Anglican Church to provide a safe, wholesome activity for children,” he said.

Bouffard said the club will have themed events, including the Crazy Hair meeting, the Bring a Friend meeting, and the AWANA Grand Prix, where members will race model cars.

Each meeting follows the same basic structure.

“Each club meeting begins with the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer. There is game time, craft time, handbook time and a closing ceremony when awards are made,” Bouffard said.

AWANA is an interdenominational Christian ministry that has been around for 60 years, and it aims to help parents and churches develop spiritually strong children. Each week, more than 1.5 million children and 250,000 volunteers meet in more than 22,000 churches in the United States and abroad, to learn Scripture verses, play games and make new friends.
