Same-Sex Intimate Unions [PDF]

Moore Theological College Principal, Dr Mark Thompson, wrote this 18-page paper to help Christians in their thinking and conversations in the present day debate surrounding same-sex marriage.

He writes:
“… Christian teaching about homosexuality does not simply rely on five isolated, condemnatory biblical texts — ‘five uneasy pieces’ from Genesis 19, Leviticus 18–20, Romans 1, 1 Corinthians 6 and 1 Timothy 1. It is anchored in a far richer biblical theology of human relationships that begins in creation and ends in the consummation of all things.”
In the paper he examines:
The critical nature of the current debate
The framework for a Christian discussion of marriage and sex
The specific references to homosexual behaviour in outline
The challenge of same-sex intimate unions
The ongoing problem of a campaign against dissent
He also includes some further reading that may be helpful to Christians.
