[Telegraph (UK)] April 4, 2005--The first openly gay Anglican bishop has sparked outrage for suggesting that Jesus might have been homosexual.

The Bible also tells us that Jesus had a number of women followers who accompanied him and his male disciples and supported Jesus' ministry out of whatever means that they had.. Mary sat at his feet. Martha recognized him as the Messiah. When his male disciples fled, his women followers did not. They were the first to discover the empty tomb. They were the first to encounter the risen Jesus. In having women followers, Jesus was unique among rabbis of the time - staunch traditionalists who would not speak to a woman in public or teach them in private. Jesus spoke to the Samaritan woman at the well of Jacob. When John speaks of himself as "the disciple whom Jesus love," he was not speaking of a homoerotic attachment as Robinson would have us interpret that statement. One has only to look at the entire Gospel of John and John's Letters. Robinson is trying to rationalize and justify his own sinful homoerotic behavior by speculating that Jesus was a homosexual like himself. He will do anything to avoid repenting of his sinfulness.
