Does the Family Have a Future? Part 1

[The Christian Post] December 30, 2005--Does the family have a future? The question is offensive to the evangelical mind, but it is a controversial debate fast pressed upon us by the incredible social transformations that now shape American culture. The continued flourishing of anything that resembles the traditional family is an open question.

  1. Of course the family has a future; what a ridiculous question. You seem to imply that the homosexuals and single mothers will somehow join together and convince the Supreme Court that traditional families are un-Constitutional.

    Give me a break.

I think there is something deeply sad about trying to demand that everybody cling to an unrealistic, homogenous image of what a family "should" look like. Family is not judged by its appearance - it is an expression of commitment to shared values, and of commitment to one another. That does not necessarily take the form of a white man and a white woman with two evangelical kids and a dog...

    ...but that's okay.

  2. What, exactly, is so wrong with love, loyalty, and long-term commitment?
