Indian PM labels violence against Christian as a ‘shame’

[Christianity Today UK] 3 Sep 2008--The Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, has called the recent religious violence targeting Christians as a ‘shame’ on the nation.

In a statement, Mr. Singh expressed that he had been closely monitoring the situation and wanted the rioters be brought to justice for the violent acts committed against Christians in the state of Orissa.

"The central government has taken a very serious notice of the happenings in Orissa and he has personally spoken to the chief minister to ensure communal harmony and bring to book the culprits behind the violent incidents," it said.
