New Hampshire Episcopalians elect new bishop


New Hampshire Episcopalians elected a priest from Amherst, Mass. as their new bishop Saturday to replace Bishop V. Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop in the history of the Anglican Communion, who is scheduled to retire in January.

About 200 electors who had gathered at St. Paul’s Church in Concord elected Rev. A. Robert Hirschfeld, rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Amherst, Mass.

Hirschfeld, who is originally from Connecticut, is a regional dean in the Diocese of Western Massachusetts. He served as a vice chaplain at St. Mark’s Chapel at the University of Connecticut before going to Grace Church in 2001. Read more
