Keith Perry: Thou shalt not Tweet in an ungodly way, Church of England tells worshippers


Preaching the message of modern communication, the Church of England is asking its clergy and staff to spread the world through Twitter - in a way God would approve of

Churchgoers have been told to ask themselves: “Would God like my tweet?” as the Church of England draws up the nine Commandments for social media faithful.

Preaching the message of modern communication, the Diocese of Bath & Wells urged its clergy and staff to reach out to others through social media in the hope they will help spread the Christian message in a way God would approve of.

The diocese said social media was “an important missional tool” that could build relationships not possible through other channels. But it added that church members should beware the temptations of social media immediacy and not lose their Christian values in the rush to be “liked”.

New good practice guidelines issued by the diocese included the first tenet: Don’t rush in.

“Before posting always think: Is this my story to share? Would I want my mum to read this? Would I want God to read this?” the instructions stated.  Keep reading
