5 Lessons from an Unlikely Church PLanter


Brian Bolt gave his life to Christ in the back of an ambulance after being shot in the head. Weeks later, he became part of a men’s recovery home, and his life was radically transformed. There, he discovered his calling to become a pastor and plant churches.

After Bible college in eastern Pennsylvania, Bolt relocated to Pittsburgh and started the first men’s Hope Home and CityReach Church, where he serves as lead pastor. Out of this ministry grew the CityReach Network, which has planted 13 churches in Northeastern cities and is on target to double that number by the end of 2015. Many of the network’s inspired planters and leaders have emerged from a recovery background, allowing them to reach the poor and broken—CityReach’s mission field. Here, Bolt shares five of the church planting lessons he has learned in his journey toward multiplication.

I have learned the hard way that pain is the best teacher. I have also learned that out of great pain comes great purpose. When we planted CityReach Church, we had no idea what God would show us and teach us—and how he would use us to grow his kingdom. Keep reading
