All Hallows Evening Prayer for Sunday Evening (February 14, 2021) Is Now Onlne

Welcome to All Hallows Evening Prayer, a service of worship in the evening for all pilgrims on the journey to the heavenly city.

This coming Tuesday is Shrove Tuesday, a day on which penitents at one time were “shrived” of their sins—confessed their sins to a priest, received absolution, and were assigned penances before beginning the forty days of Lent. It is a last day of Epiphanytide. In some traditions it is marked by the consumption of pancakes and other sweets. Pancakes and other sweets are a practical way of using up rich foods before the Lenten season in which such foods are traditionally avoided.

A reminder: In addition to a service of Evening Prayer on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021, All Hallows Murray will also provide a penitential service for those who are unable to attend the Ash Wednesday Service at their own church. or who do not have a church whose Ash Wednesday Service that they can attend.

The Scripture reading for this Sunday evening is Hebrews 13:10-16 Service Well-Pleasing to God.

The homily is titled, “The Practice of God’s Presence.” It answers the question of how we may continuously offer a sacrifice of praise to God through Jesus.

The dismissal song is Dan Schutte’s arrangement of Folliet Sandford Pierpoint’s hymn for SATB voices, assembly, organ, with bells and trumpets, available from Oregon Catholic Press (OCP).
