All Hallows Evening Prayer for Saturday Evening (March 13, 2021) Is Now Online

All Hallows Evening Prayer is a service of worship in the evening for all pilgrims on the journey to the heavenly city.

In some Slavic, Nordic, Balkan, and other European cultures and in Mid-Eastern cultures bread and salt are presented to guests as a gesture of welcome.

In traditional Jewish households Sabbath meals begin with the eating of bread and salt. According to Rabbinical tradition, salt symbolizes the eternal covenant between God and Israel. Bread and salt were at one time also used to welcome important guests.

As we learn in Saturday evening’s homily, salt held more than one meaning for those who gathered to hear Jesus.

The Scripture reading for this Saturday evening is Luke 14:34-35 About Salt.

The homily is titled “Salt?”
