7 Tips for Leading Small Group Worship

In this article Rich Muchow offers some excellent suggestions for overcoming the obstacles to small group worship. One thing that he does not mention. A small group does not need to have a guitarist to have a worship time. When it comes to singing, a small group can use mp3s, videos, CDs, or a digital hymn player as a musical accompaniment to the singing. All the suggestions that he makes will work equally well in a house church, home fellowship, or a micro-church, in any small gathering of worshippers. The singing can be unaccompanied. All that is needed is one or two strong voices to lead the singing.

What works well in my experience is to begin with praise, followed by adoration, and concluded by spoken or silent prayer. The group leader or the prayer champion, the person with responsibility for leading the prayer time, can suggest different pray concerns and needs and the members of the group can then pray for these concerns and needs silently or aloud. The group may wish to conclude the prayer time by praying the Lord's Prayer together. Read the Article
