PRAYER AT THE END OF THE DAY
All standing, the leader says
The Lord almighty grant us a quiet night and a perfect end. AMEN.
The leader may call the people to confession with these or other suitable words
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Let us humbly confess our sins to almighty God.
A period of silent self-examination may follow.
The leader and the people say this Confession
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, and in what we have failed to do. Have mercy on us, forgive us all that is past, and grant that we may serve you and live a new life to your glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.
The priest, when present, pronounces the absolution
May the Almighty and merciful Lord grant to you pardon and forgiveness of your sins, time for amendment of life, and the grace and comfort of the Holy Spirit. AMEN.
If no priest is present the absolution is omitted and the following prayer may be said:
Merciful Lord, grant to your faithful people pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.
Or this Word of Assurance may be said
If anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and he is the perfect offering for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:1,2
Or a short period of silence may be kept.
