Redefining Marriage - Church Society Comment

In light of yesterday's historic debate in parliament where MPs voted in principle to redefine marriage, Church Society have released the following comment, and are suggesting co-ordinated action by ministers.

Church Society Comment

"God the Father has poured out his love for others, through the self-sacrificial death of his Son and by their Spirit, into the hearts of all who trust in him. Because God loves us he sets out in the Bible a way of life which does not always give us what we want, but transforms us into people who give up ourselves to love and obedience.

Our prayers are with all those who, in imitation of Christ, lay aside their sexual desires in order to self-sacrificially love God and others. We pray for all who are committed to singleness and celibacy, either out of honour for God's institution of marriage between one man and one woman, for the sake of mission overseas, for the long term care of a family member, for their convictions regarding the nature of ministry, or for a myriad of other reasons.
