This list of links to online liturgical texts from Anglican, Lutheran, and Presbyterian sources is not exhaustive. It will give readers a good idea of the extent of the liturgical texts online. I also included a number of articles related to the Evangelical Lutheran Worship (2006). Due to copyright restrictions the liturgical texts from Evangelical Lutheran Worship are not available online. These articles offer ideas for a planning a service of Holy Communion using that book as well as insights into the thinking behind the book. I have included a church bulletin for an ELW service of Holy Communion .
In examining the liturgical texts it is important to remember that they are used in different cultural contexts and what may be normative in one culture may not be normative in another. For example, in Africa and the West Indies services tend to be longer than they are in Canada and the United States, reflecting a different perception of time. My cousin is with the British Foreign Service and she was stationed in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) for a number of years. She reports that it is completely different world from modern-day Britain. Zairians did not live at the hurried, frenetic pace of modern Brits, with one eye on the clock. What mattered to them was not the pace at which something was done or even finishing it but forming, renewing, and strengthening relationships.
