All Hallows Evening Prayer is a service of worship in the evening for all pilgrims on the journey to the heavenly city.
The music for All Hallows Evening Prayer is eclectic in style and drawn from a number of Christian traditions—Anglican/Episcopal, Baptist, Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian/Reformed, and Shaker, to name a few. While it is largely chosen with an eye to its usefulness to the small Christian community, it may occasionally include selections from the traditional Anglican cathedral repertoire
The Scripture reading for this Sunday evening is Luke 12: 13-21 The Parable of the Rich Fool.
The homily is titled, “Be Rich Toward God.”
The second psalm is Donald Fishel’s arrangement of Psalm 91, “Be With Me, Lord,” for SATB voices, cantor, assembly, keyboard, and guitar. This arrangement is available in a Choral/Guitar Edition from International Liturgical Publications.
Donald Fishel is best known for his Christian songs, “Alleluia No. 1,” (“Alleluia, alleluia, give thanks to the risen Lord,”) and “The Light of Christ,” (“The light of Christ has come into the world”). They were popularized in the Anglican and Episcopal Churches by the Community of Celebration’s Fisherfolk teams in the 1970s and appear in a number of denominational hymnals and hymnal supplements.
The lyrics and music of the dismissal song, “Wherever Your Treasure Lies,” were written and composed by Kathy Sherman CSJ and are from her album, “Love Cannot Be Silenced.” The album is available from the Ministry of the Arts of the Community of St. Joseph.
