Tornadoes and severe thunderstorms struck parts of Kentucky late Friday night and early Saturday morning. Mayfield and Graves County in westernmost Kentucky were badly hit. Graves County adjoins the Calloway County wher I live and Mayfield is about a thirty minute drive from Murray, the town on whose outskirts I live. I was without electricity and the internet from late Friday evening to around midday today. Two barns were destroyed in my county, but we did not experience the devastation that Mayfield and Graves County did. I am asking prayer for the people in Mayfield and Graves County and other parts of Kentucky that were hit by tornadoes and heavy winds. If you wish to offer disaster relief to the people of these parts of Kentucky, I recommend that you do it through the disaster relief organizations in your denomination or those to which your church belongs. From what I gather, the tornado that hit Mayfield and Graves County was spawned in Arkansas and then traveled northwest through the Jackson Purchase region of Kentucky. It may have traveled the farthest on record. It did extensive damage to the TVA grid and to the substations providing electricity to the region. While power is being gradually restored to the region, some homes and businesses may be without power for several days. Please also pray for the linemen and crews restoring power to the region. They also need our prayers.
