Our Target Area
Located approximately 30 miles north of New Orleans across the waters of Lake Pontchartrain on the North Shore, at the western end of St. Tammany Parish, one of the fastest growing parishes in Louisiana. Within the area are four North Shore communities – Abita Springs, Covington, Madisonville, and Mandeville.
The area has grown at a rate of 7% every 5 years since the opening of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in the late 1950s.
The 1990 population of the target area was 54,718. The 2000 population was 94,185. The 2009 population – based upon the area’s pre-Hurricane Katrina growth rate, is projected to be 105,697.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina St. Tammany has experienced an unprecedented growth spurt. More than 1400 new households have relocated to the parish. Many new families have moved to our target area. The area has also seen an influx of Spanish-speaking workers. A number of these workers have brought their families with them. It is a time of great spiritual opportunity.
