[The Church of England Newspaper] April 7, 2006--Christians in Eritrea are facing increasing pressure to convert to Islam, claimed a leading religious liberties group this week in a campaign to support believers in the country. Open Doors said that despite extensive persecution of Christians, especially evangelicals, the Christian community is strong and active. Around 1,750 Christians are currently in prison, reported Open Doors after a visit by one of its directors to the country, while many believers are facing increasing pressure.
