[Outreach] 8 Jul 2006--In our world, crisis is inevitable. According to Judith A. Schwanz, associate professor of pastoral care and counseling at Nazarene Theological Seminary, the average American family will experience a crisis of moderate to severe nature every three to four years. Perhaps it's a death of a loved one, a divorce, a job loss or in Joe's case, a diagnosis. Each involves a loss of some kind, and each means a disruption of balance in life—a turning point, says author and church consultant Thom Rainer. Those turning points, he says, can be a catalyst to considering new perspectives on life.
