[Black Star News] 15 May 2007--The head of a Ugandan organization that campaigns against what it calls “immorality” has blamed Western countries for the “encouraging” and financing homosexuality in this East African country. Separately, the leader of the Anglican Church as well, and a government minister, have condemned the practice.

“We got information that a lot of money to support those involved in homosexuality is pumped into the country by homosexual organizations in developed countries like Britain, USA, Denmark, Sweden, Canada and others,” says Tom Amuge, chairperson of Uganda Youths Against Immorality (UYAI). He says the practice has increased amongst some educated Ugandans.

“It is unfortunate that many youths are involved in homosexuality,” adds Amuge. “The evil act is now common in most universities and institutions of higher learning which is unfortunate.'' He says UYAI and others related to youth activities have launched a campaign to fight homosexuality by sensitizing youths about the “bad side” of homosexuality.

Echoing UYAI’s criticism, the Rt. Reverend Bishop Henry Luke Orombi, head of the Anglican church in Uganda, says the practice is unchristian. “Homosexuality and lesbianism have made people abandon relationships with the opposite sex,” he says. “One wonders whether God was stupid to create Adam and Eve. Why isn't Eve beautiful any more? Eve is going out with Eve and Adam with Adam which is lamentable.'' Orombi is Archbishop of Uganda and Bishop of Kampala.
