[Nigeria Exchange News] 14 Jul 2008--Bishops of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) have rejected Archbishop Peter Akinola's notice of voluntary retirement as Primate of the Church and requested that he completes his tenure to 2010.

Archbishop Peter Akinola said that when he was elected Primate in 2000, he decided to retire at 65, five years ahead of the mandatory retirement age of 70.

His election as a Primate allowed him a single term of 10 years, according to the church canons and constitution, before the mandatory retirement age of 70.
