The road to Lambeth: A reflection by Paul Feheley

[The Anglican Church of Canada] 16 Jul 2008--I am on the train travelling on Sunday afternoon from Glasgow to Canterbury. Archbishop Fred Hiltz, the Canadian Primate, his wife Lynne and I arrived in Glasgow Saturday and have been enjoying the hospitality of the Primus of Scotland, Idris Jones and his wife, Alison. Archbishop Fred and Lynne will stay in Glasgow for a few more days and travel to the Lambeth Conference on Tuesday.

The ride down is remarkably peaceful and beautiful. I look out the train window to see a most remarkable scene of God’s creation. The enormous hills and trees are a verdant green. Cows and sheep and rivers of water dominate the landscape. Despite all that has happened in the past few years, indeed since the last Lambeth Conference, I honestly wonder if what I am seeing might not be a prelude to what is to come in Canterbury.

The following comment in regards to Fendley's blog entry was posted on TitusOneNine."If Archdeacon Fendley is really interested in conversation as he says, he could start by characterizing those who disagree with him fairly. Those who have chosen out of conscience and conviction not to come to Lambeth are not seeking to destroy Lambeth--indeed I would challenge him to cite an instance where they say they wish to do so." I agree wholeheartedly with this comment.
