[The Living Church] 14 Jul 2008--Officials with the Anglican Diocese of San Joaquin sought to dismiss persistent rumors that Bishop John-David Schofield of the Anglican diocese will be uninvited at the last minute to the Lambeth Conference of bishops.
“Rumors are just that,” said the Rev. Canon Bill Gadenberger, canon to the ordinary of the Anglican diocese. “The invitation is still valid. Yet much is still happening, GAFCON was fantastic and gives us much of what we need for the future.”
Last December an overwhelming majority of delegates to the convention of the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin amended their constitution and canons to remove all affiliation with the General Convention of The Episcopal Church. Another resolution approved an offer of temporary, emergency and pastoral oversight from the Anglican Province of the Southern Cone. Lawyers for The Episcopal Church have been locked in a legal dispute over control of church assets since the vote.
Canon Gandenberger said Bishop Schofield has received nothing from Lambeth beyond the study materials and updates sent to all invited bishops since receiving his invitation in May 2007.
