Lambeth conference fails to resolve gay clergy debate

[ABC News] 4 Aug 2008--The 650 bishops meeting in Canterbury, England all follow the same faith, but getting them to agree on some religious principles has proved impossible and it is threatening to tear the Anglican Church apart.

The bishops from all over the world have been attending the Lambeth conference but after nearly three weeks of talks, they have failed to resolve the crisis over same sex unions and homosexuality.

More than 200 conservative bishops boycotted the conference and each day, the bishops at the conference have prayed for them.

Two-hundred and fifty bishops, including the Archbishop of Sydney, Dr Peter Jensen, and six other Sydney bishops, stayed away to protest over same sex unions and the consecration of a gay bishop in the United States, Bishop Gene Robinson.

He was not invited to the conference, but turned up anyway.

Was it supposed to?! It certainly was not set up to.
