Maldives, Yemen, Eritrea Under the Radar but Huge Persecutors of Christians

[The Christian Post] 9 Feb 2009--Earlier this month Open Doors released its annual World Watch List of 50 countries where Christians face the most severe persecution.

North Korea headed by dictator Kim Jong Il is No. 1 on the list for the seventh year in a row. No surprise since the communist country incarcerates more prisoners – including thousands of Christians – than any other country in the world.

Saudi Arabia is No. 2 followed by Iran. Again, that is hardly a shock. Both of those countries are ruled by strict Sharia law. Muslim Background Believers often face imprisonment, torture and even death for their faith.

Countries like North Korea and Iran often are in the headlines by rattling their sabers on the world stage.

But there are several countries on the top 10 list of the World Watch List that are relatively unknown in the West. Yet, the degree of persecution against Christians is very high.

I would like to focus on three of those....
