Focus on danger of paedophiles masking ‘chilling’ levels of rape and sexual abuse between children, Government study warns
“Chilling” levels of rape and sexual violence by children on other children have become part of everyday life in Britain fuelled by pornography and online bullying, a landmark series of Government reports concludes.
While parents, police and social workers have been preoccupied with combating the threat from paedophiles, sexual violence and coercion perpetrated by young people themselves has become “normal”, they say.
An expert panel which carried out a two-year investigation into the child sexual exploitation was left “aghast” at the level of “sadism” being perpetrated among teenagers, its chair said.
Practices previously associated with inner-city gangs are widespread in affluent middle class areas and successful schools including church schools, according to Sue Berelowitz, the Deputy Children’s Commissioner for England, who oversaw the reports.
Overall, she said they had exposed a “deep malaise” in society over the issue of sex among children. Keep reading
