[Akron Beacon Journal] December 9, 2004--Associated Press. "The United Church of Christ filed two petitions Thursday asking the Federal Communications Commission to deny license renewals to two Miami television stations that wouldn't air an ad that alludes to condemnation of gay relationships by some churches...."
The response of the United Church of Christ to the rejection of its controversial "bouncers at the church door" ad by two leading TV networks lends credibility to the assertion of TV executives that the UCC had ulterior motives in submitting the ad - knowing that it would be rejected, so it could accuse the networks of censureship and taking the steps that it is now taking. At the same time the UCC gets the added bonus of all the media attention it has been receiving over the networks' rejection of the ad and its response. It is using what has become a characteristic ploy of 'gay rights' advocacy groups - provoke a negative response with some outrageous action and then exploit that response for all its worth, distorting its significance, exaggerating its seriousness, and using it as justification for a no-holds barred attack.
