[University of Calgary]November 8, 2004--Here is the full text of the lecture on the historical Jesus given by Craig A. Evens, Payzant Distinguished Professor of New Testament, on November 1, 2004. An Acrobat Reader is required.

"Dan Brown’s best-selling The Da Vinci Code has catapulted the historical Jesus back onto centre stage in the popular press. More than ten books have been published in the last year attempting to refute or correct aspects of Brown’s controversial views. But Brown’s book is only a fictional expression of several remarkable studies and groundbreaking discoveries of the last two decades. Thanks to publication of the Dead Sea Scrolls and some remarkable archaeological discoveries, scholars are now in a position to reassess long-held views of who Jesus was, what he taught, and what he accomplished."
