[Scotsman.com] January 7, 2005--The diocese of York today announced it was donating £100,000 to the relief effort in south east Asia.
The money, believed to be the highest donated by the diocese, will be channelled directly to church leaders in the affected regions and was sanctioned following discussions between Church of England finance chiefs and the Archbishop of York, Dr David Hope.
The diocese of York is channeling its aid directly to "church leaders in the affected regions". The Episcopal Church USA, on the other hand, is channeling its aid through Church World Service since one of the regions affected is the jurisdiction of the Anglican Province of South East Asia and that province declared a state of impaired communion exists between the ECUSA and itself as a result of the 2003 General Convention's confirmation of Gene Robinson and authorization of same sex blessings as a local option. Did the ECUSA offer aid to the Anglican Province of South East Asia and was its offer rebuffed? Does the ECUSA's channeling of aid through Church World Service indicate a tacit recognition of this state of impaired communion on the part of the ECUSA's leaders? Why has Presiding Bishop Frank Griswold made no public statements since his Christmas Message of December 9, 2004?
