[allAfrica.com] January 17, 2005--The Tsunami disaster resulted from the December 26, 2004 earthquake in the Indian ocean which triggered a wall of water between 30 and 40 feet and a tidal wave, sweeping everything and destroying everything on its path in 26 countries. Worst hit were the South-East Asian countries of Indonesia, which accounted for two-third of the casualties, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Srilanka and some East African Counties, notably, Kenya and Tanzania. The tragedy is reported to be the worst natural disaster in the world in the last 40 years.
