[The Church of England Newspaper] November 2, 2005--Over 100 church leaders from the Global South condemned unilateral actions by Western provinces over sexuality, but stepped back from recommending punitive action. Their third South-to-South meeting since the early 1990s was held last week by the Egyptian Red Sea under heavy security. Delegates from 21 Anglican provinces celebrated the political and theological “coming of age of the Church of the Global South”. All 12 African Provinces were represented, as were a number of Asian, South American and Middle Eastern provinces. Observers from the American Episcopal Church, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Church of England were also in attendance, as were 18 of the Communion’s 38 Primates. However the presence of a significant delegation of Anglican Mission in America Bishops, under the auspices of the Province of Rwanda, and a large number of American hangers-on, caused consternation among Global South ranks. A number of leaders also resented the way the North American crisis figured so prominently in the final communiqué.
