[Times Online] November 8, 2005--'We don't do schism' says bishop, as he outlaws cleric.
In dramatic news from Southwark later this evening, it appears that the Bishop of Southwark, the Right Rev Tom Butler, has revoked the licence of the Rev Richard Coekin, the Wimbledon Church of England clergyman who invited a bishop from South Africa to ordain three of his staff into the diaconate last seek.Bishop Butler has written to the clergy in his diocese explaining why he has revoked the licence of Mr Coekin, explaining: "We do not do schism in the Diocese of Southwark." The Bishop also pointed to church tradition and law that bishops from outside the diocese have no authority to perform ordinations within it without the express permission of the diocesan bishop.
