[The Express-Times] 16 Oct 2007-- The Episcopal Church has experienced a victory in its efforts to remain part of the worldwide family of Anglican churches, despite sharp differences over homosexuality.

Many Anglican leaders, particularly in Africa, were angered when the church’s General Convention approved the 2003 election by New Hampshire Episcopalians of a bishop with a longtime gay partner.

Central Pennsylvania Bishop Nathan Baxter was one of eight Episcopal bishops who wrote a carefully worded statement pledging not to authorize blessings for same-sex unions for now and reaffirming a resolution to “exercise restraint” by withholding consent for consecration of bishops with gay partners.
