Dr. Os Guinness: The Gospel and Secularism

[Anglicans United & Latimer Press] 15 Jul 2008--There are times and places when people must make decisions that change their futures. Rome, with Cesar crossing the Rubicon is an excellent example of this.

And, there are Kairos moments such as the young German monk posting notes on the church door; the young men who refused the King and became the Ugandan martyrs. Who can tell what God’s plans are in this watershed summer of 2008?

One month ago, I had dinner with a Roman Catholic Bishop, who asked me during dessert, “Tell me what is happening in the Episcopal Church.”I wanted to say to him that the question was a soup question, not a dessert question. I told him that we were having problems with some of our bishops. He replied that his church had its “Borgia moments in the past. Bishops labeled this way were evil and did great harm. But not one of them denied a significant tenet of the Christian faith and kept their job. Today,” he continued, “you have bishops in TEC who have denied essential elements of the Christian faith and are still bishops.“
