[The Economic Times] 22 Sep 2008--The unleashing of anti-Christian violence on the pretext that Christians have murdered Swami Lakshamananand is a replay of the anti-Muslim pogrom launched in Gujarat on the pretext that Muslims have burnt the Ramsevaks in Godhra. As Gujarat pogrom was well planned, the anti-Christian violence in Orissa and Karnataka is also well planned and has been built up over a period of years.
These are the culminations of the process in which BJP is very adept. The trajectory of Sangh Parivar politics is: begin hate propaganda against minorities, plan violence, prepare a pretext, unleash violence, polarise the communities along religious lines and strengthen the hold on political power.
In Gujarat today over five lakh victims of the carnage are living in ghettoes, totally neglected by the state. Over all, and more so in BJP-ruled states, RSS and its affiliates, VHP, Bajrang Dal, etc, demonise Christian missionaries for conversion and then intensify conversion into Hinduism through intimidation, calling it Ghar Vapasi.
In Rajasthan and MP also singling out of Muslim youth in the name of terrorism, torturing them in jails and breaking the lives of youth and wrecking their families are done routinely. The signals to minorities in BJP-ruled states to subjugate themselves are given through sporadic violence and Hindutva cultural impositions.
In these states, government’s neglect of minorities and their intimidation is the norm. VHP and Bajrang Dal have a free hand in unleashing the mayhem to promote the Hindutva agenda.
