When I was involved in child welfare work for the State of Louisiana one of my coworkers was shot and killed on the way home from work. His truck had broken down and he was looking under the hood when someone who was angry because he was obstructing traffic drew up to his truck and shot him dead and then drove away. He was Black. As far as I know his killer was never brought to justice. He was kind, gentle, and unassuming man. My entire agency was shocked by his murder. If he had been white, he might not have been killed. I cannot say that with certainty but I think that the likelihood is strong. Racial injustice is not something that church leaders can dismiss or ignore nor should they.
