All Hallows Evening Prayer for Saturday Evening (September 5, 2020) Now Online
The daily rhythm of praise and prayer has helped generations of Christians in difficult times like our own. It focuses our attention on what is most important—our relationship with God. Everything else in its time will fade away. But our relationship with God lasts forever.
All Hallows Murray offers its weekly services of Evening Prayer on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings with that thought in mind. It does not matter who you are, the walk of life from which you come, or where you are in your faith journey, these services are offered to help you to draw closer to God and to live in harmony with God and your fellow human beings. May they prove a lasting blessing to you and to whoever with whom you share them.
The variable psalm for Saturday evening is “The King of Love My Shepherd Is.” It is a paraphrase of Psalm 23, written by Henry Baker and sung to John Ritter’s choral arrangement of the hymn.
The Scripture reading for Saturday evening is 1 John 4:7-21. It is traditionally read at the Holy Eucharist on the First Sunday after Trinity in the Anglican Church. It is particularly suitable for our times when the conflicts that are roiling our country are also roiling the Church.
The homily is titled “God Is Love.” After examining the implications of the Scripture reading for Christians, it touches upon how God is working in us to restore his image in us.
The dismissal hymn is “Christ Be Beside Me.” It is an adaptation of St. Patrick’s Breast Plate and was written by James Quinn. It is sung to Laura Wasson’s tune ST. ROSE.
